What's the big deal about posting in old threads? It's quite common (not here though) to see moderators warning users for replying to threads where the previous message was posted like 1 year ago or so. What the reason of this? Personal taste? Or is there any valid reason for that? I just fail to understand

Probably depends on the section/forum, reviving old threads that are irrelevant to the current times might confuse or create misinformation.

Honestly?
There are many reasons one being the one springfield mentioned.
Some / most / single threads often get stuck at a specific point and then there's just a higher chance of doing it over again and getting it solved properly.

But the biggest point IMHO is for SEO, if you have more content on your website search engines will index more of it - if a search engine indexes a page of yours the possibility is again higher of you getting a visit - and this will automatically maximize your exposure to the WWW.

I myself did near to none SEO optimizations for UGBASE tbh we "only focus" on SA:MP there's not much We could advertise for.

Oh... and probably because a thread died for a reason may it be for reasons like there's no solution to the problem / no answer to a question or the users discussion in these thread being inactive.

@springfield
for example this one: http://forum.sa-mp.im/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=74048&start=240

Darien:
This is a year and a half old, why would you post here.

What's the logic behind this?

What do you mean by higher chance of doing it over again?

Sorry, I expressed myself wrong.
I meant the following:
Not holding on a old topic can have positive effects as approaching things a new way can have some positive effects (talking about mod requests f.e.) but that's a very specific one just hold onto my other arguments that one was really vague

Judging by the topic content, locking it will squash the new wave of 'admins sucks' posts that was soon to follow.

If you are a member of that community, you'd get a better answer/reason by PMing the moderator who locked it(if he's willing to share it). As a moderator here, i don't see the logic either, but then again we are more relaxed(in regards to rules/warns etc.) and friendly towards members.
