What is the approximate length of the longest ladder (in feet) you can carry horizontally around the corner of the corridor shown here?

The longest length will be when the ladder is at a 45 deg angle.
Construct two squares using the diagonals (45 deg) BR and RA
Length of a 45 diagonal in a square = length of side * SQRT2
R sits at (8,6)
So (SQRT2 * 8) + (SQRT2 * 6)
= 19.8

If it's really calculus that you're talking about... then you might need to check out this possibility too ;)
