Hello,

I am about to install a Windows 8 on my PC, currently on Windows XP. First I would bring down my system, format my disk and bring a clean install. Now, I know that some of you here have installed a pirated Windows 8.1 already or at least didn't buy it, used fake keys, etc. So, I'd like to see someone who has installed Windows 8 and how he/she has done it.

Basically, where to get key from, how to install and how not to install, etc. Simillar tips, because I've heard that Windows 8 can be sort of "special" in regards to its installation.

On this PC I am running:
Intel Pentium 4 530
Codename: Prescott.
Package: Socket 775 LGA.
Family: F
Model: 4
Revision: E0
Stepping: 1

Currently I am running Windows XP, and since I haven't changed OS, nor formatted disks or anything of sort for 3 years, some slowing down is noticed. Windows 8 does run better and faster on older PCs, single-core ones and thus it is the reason I am switching to it.

Concerns and questions:
Is my Pentium 4 64-Bit capable?
Can I switch to Windows 8.1?
Should I switch to Windows 8?
How should I install Windows 8 on it?

Any tips or anything would be helpful!

Thanks. :)

It should be capable. My pc is 64 bit too, and i am currently using windows 8.1.
Can I switch to Windows 8.1?
Ye but not directly from xp to windows 8.1 i guess. But i am not sure. How i got windows 8.1 ? I was using windows 8.0, then one day while turning on the pc i got a message saying windows 8.1 is now downloadable. I said okay, it installed, and restarted the pc automaticly. But idk what happened. I noticed no difference.
Should I switch to Windows 8?
With no doubt. BUT. Changing from xp to windows 8.0 will shock you. You will say "where is start button ! where is this ! where is that ! ".  Because it is a lot different. However it took me a week to get habit of the new system. Now i can clearly say, windows 8 is way much better than xp, and i miss nothing about xp. I was a hard XP fan. Vista came, all my classmates had it, i simply rejected. Then windows 7 came. For some time i rejected that too. But then, a game was not supporting xp and microsoft said there will be no more updates about XP. So that convinced me to turn to Windows 7 which was a bit faster than xp (regardless of some compatibility problems on some softwares.) But windows 8, is fackin great! I rejected windows 8 first time it came too. But then, my father bought me laptop on which windows 8 was installed. So i decided to understand how things work with windows 8. And now i love it!. With no doubt you should try it.
How should I install Windows 8 on it?
As windows 8 was already installed on my laptop, i don't know how to deal with serials etc. for windows 8. but if i were you, i would first find a clean windows 8 iso file, i would download it with uTorrent, then i would burn it on a DVD with nero or ultraiso or something. And then making a clean install by using the DVD.

I found a torrent and all that. All I need is some keys and keygens, several just in case one fails.

I am doing a clean install. I know how Windows 8 looks and functions, my friend has it. Basically I would prefer fake real version rather than pirated so I can use official support and updates; I know that there are plenty of keys out there.

I found a pre-activated x64 PRO Windows 8.1 torrent TPB, yet some people say it doesn't contain a valid key so I'd need additional if possible.

Thanks, Xzytro, you really do help a lot! :)

Also, another concer: How would I mount a Windows 8.1 installation? If I could mount it from external HDD somehow? Thanks!
